The main goal of the Aquila Lab is to understand the role of atmospheric aerosol particles from volcanic eruptions, forest fires, and man-made pollution in the Earth's climate. Our main tools are global climate models, aided by satellite and in-situ observations.
High resolution simulation of global atmospheric aerosols from the NASA GEOS-5 Earth System Model. Winds lift and transport dust (red) from the deserts and sea salt (white) from the oceans, forest fires produce smoke (green), and volcanoes and fossil fuel burning emit sulfate particles (white).
